Moorea - a beautiful green island

Moorea - a beautiful green island

Today we head for Moorea which will be the first stop on our Tahitian adventure.

Moorea is a French Polynesian Island which can be easily accessed by ferry from Tahiti harbour. The ferry carries both pedestrians and vehicles and takes about fifty minutes in total.

The island is around eighty square miles and is small enough to drive around in a few hours. As the boat nears the port we notice a distinct difference from the landscape of Papeete. It is much greener and quieter and it immediately feels like we have found the true. island life.

Our home for the next three nights is an over-water bungalow in Haapiti. Accommodation is dorm like with five of us sleeping in single beds in one large room and a second room which has a double and single bed plus a bathroom off the bedroom. The shower is small, there is no hot water and overall the property is is quite basic. However, the warm welcome and beautiful food provided by our hosts and the amazing walk along the raised boardwalk over the water to access the bungalow make up for the lack of creature comforts.

On the far side of the bungalow a sliding door leads onto a tiered deck with a metal swimming ladder which provides easy access to the crystal clear water below. The view across the ocean is spectacular and I immediately decide that this will be the spot for my morning yoga practice.

Waking up to that view every morning and breathing in the clear fresh air every day is truly going to be an experience to savour.
